Financial Gravity’s staff recently organized a backpack drive for a Dallas charity called SoupMobile. Last Saturday morning, Dave (President of Financial Gravity Wealth) and Adrienne Crowley (Director of First Impression) delivered forty-nine backpacks, each with a McDonald’s gift card inside, to this non-profit.
Founded in 2003 by David Timothy, a.k.a. The SoupMan, SoupMobile is a mobile soup kitchen that “feeds and shelters” the homeless community of Dallas, Texas (with a particular sensitivity towards homeless Veterans.) The SoupMobile is different from traditional soup kitchens in that they are ‘mobile’ and take the food to areas where the homeless congregate. They are literally on the front lines in the war against hunger in Dallas, Texas. In one year, the generous organization delivers over 250,000 meals (that’s a lot!) Though we didn’t get to meet TheSoupMan himself, we were honored to meet Scott, his head chef.
In addition, SoupMobile also offers a shelter program. The Shelter Program is a series of group homes which are designed to be ‘supportive housing’. Each unit is specifically designed to take homeless men, women, or families off the streets, put a roof over their heads, get them jobs, and eventually return them as working, productive members of the community. The SoupMobile also has a Motel Housing assistance program designed to provide emergency housing on a short term basis.
Though Financial Gravity’s contribution was a small one (compared to what the SoupMan has done for Dallas over 14 years), it felt really great to help out our community. To learn more about this organization, or to make a donation yourself, check out their site here.
